The Bicycle Rack Gains Status

At nine strategic locations around New York City, the simple bicycle rack has been elevated to the status of modern art. The New York Department of Transportation and the art gallery Pace Wildenstein, commissioned musician and biking enthusiast David Byrne to design the new racks. According to The New York Times, Mr. Byrne thought it important that the racks be of the same thickness as existing bike racks, "to help identify them as practical racks and not just modern art."
